Royalties consist of an economic income/revenue that corresponds to the original(s) rights-holder(s).Therefore we differentiate between “legitimate royalties” and “illegitimate royalties”:
Legitimate Royalties: Royalties that were properly generated through actual organic activities. These are the result of actual and rightful exploitation of certain content.
Illegitimate Royalties: Royalties that were generated through unauthorized or fraudulent activities. These are the result of any artificial exploitation or activity that generates illicit and un rightful income.
Please note that, contractually, DSPs have the right to reclaim illegitimate royalties during a timeframe within 60 months. You can find further information about how the royalties payment process works here.
